Assistant Supervisor – Lower Dauphin School District

Our Assistant Supervisor works with the Supervisor to serve as a liaison between the School District, the drivers and Rohrer Bus Service. The Assistant Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the operation of van routes and the drivers assigned to those routes. This is also a driving position, responsible for a daily bus route.

Position Details)

  • Provide excellent internal and external customer service while coordinating transportation coverage
  • Oversee and manage all school van routes and drivers for assigned district
  • Coordinate with the District Supervisor, Operations Department and other School District Supervisors to ensure coverage of van routes
  • Coordinate and communicate bus and van route changes to the Operations Department, drivers and in Rohrerlink
  • Oversee monthly van audits and input data into mileage entries. Schedule service when needed.
  • Arrange shuttles to and from shops acting as liaison between drivers and mechanics.
  • Maintain Accident/Incident reports, submitting to Safety Dept. in a timely manner.
  • Collect and record Daily Vehicle Inspection Reports and send them to the Safety Department
  • Help execute the Call Tree List in emergency situations, school delays or early dismissals
  • Keep record and send to Operations all District charter needs for field trips and sporting events
  • Record and assign drivers to any charter/trips we are responsible for covering.
  • Maintain, record and report full-time hours when school is not in session, either for an extended holiday break or during the summer. Hours can be accumulated driving for summer camps and hours assigned by the District Supervisor. Hours will be approved by the Vice President and Transportation Office Supervisor.

  • Complete wheelchair van training and extensive van knowledge
  • Must maintain a Class B CDL, Passenger and School bus endorsements with the air brake restriction removed as well as the associated valid physicals
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and transportation
  • Must be able to pass background checks and pre-employment drug screening
  • Minimal regional travel
  • Must be able to spend hours sitting and using office equipment and computers, which can cause muscle strain
  • Must have the stamina to maintain attention to detail, despite interruptions
  • Must have the ability to read printed materials on a computer screen, and hear and speak to communicate in person, over the telephone and the radio.
  • Must be able to lift up to fifty pounds and be able to lift the engine hood of the vehicle, assist students out of the emergency exit, open and close windows
  • Must be able to bend and twist, to check tire air pressure, pick up items on vehicle floor, reach and safely operate hydraulic brake while performing correct procedures and to apply wheelchair tie downs
  • Must be able to spend hours sitting and maintain a clearance of two (2) inches around the perimeter of the steering wheel to ensure safe operation
  • Must be able to climb stairs to enter and exit vehicle, and climb out of emergency exits in case of emergency
  • Must be able to complete required pushing, pulling and reaching to safely operate vehicle mechanisms, and assist students.
  • Must be able to withstand working in varying indoor and outdoor conditions, and extreme temperatures and weather
